Investigation on damage of high pressure steam boiler tubes

The failure occured on one roof waterwall tube and the operating period of 110000 hours were reasons to assessment the residual life of high pressure steam boiler. The high pressure steam boiler was ...constructed in 1974. The operating pressure of steam is 80 bars and operating temperature is 460°C. Maximal steam production is 40 tons/hour. First five years as a fuel a heavy oil was used. Since the year 1979, when the two burners were modified to heavy oil or gass burners. In generaly gass was used as a fuel. The residual life and the revitalisation of the boiler was performed on the results of following working program: - survey of project parameters and plan of reconstruction, - survey of general characteristics of the boiler operation, fuel, water quality and overhaulings, - survey and estimation of documents of failures and their repairs, - visual inspection of all accessible parts of the boiler after cleaning, - analysis of the composition of deposites on the fireside and inside of tubes, - non destructive testing (penetrant testing, ultrasonic testing, radiographs, ultrasonic thickness measurement), - examination of microstructure by replica tecnique and on specimens cut out from tubes and - elevated temperature creep test.
