  • Deconstructing images of women in slovene primary school textbooks

    The article's introduction presents in brief a few lines from the theory of representation, as it is defined in (post-) structuralist studies, in particular the questions of meaning and ... representation, identity and representation, and the methods of representational analyses. It also presentssome formal narrative methods (dualism, stereotyping, homogenisation, definition of relations, hyperseparation, denial and instrumentalisation) thatsupport and open the problems of representation and gender differences. The article continues with the presentation of a portion of the research results from Language and gender difference: Image of women in primary school workbooks It describes in greater detail the methodological principles of the quantitative and qualitative analysis of primary school readers. The research results can be recapitulated in two main ideas: the female image in primary school readers is underrepresented, and when it is represented, it is extremely stereotypical.
