  • Epidemiološke in klinične značilnosti kriptosporidioze = Epidemiological and clinical characteristics of cryptosporidiosis

    Background. Cryptosporidiosis is a disease caused by the protozoan Cryptosporidium parvum. It was recognised as a cause of diarrheal illness in humans and animals. The disease is often self-limiting ... but it can be life-threatening in immunopromised persons. Asymptomatic carriers are known, too. Cryptosporidiosis is spread by drinking contaminated water or eating foodcontaminated with Cryptosporidium oocysts, direct contact with the dropping of infected animals or stool of infected humans, or hand-to-mouth transfer of oocysts from contaminated surfaces. Conclusions. Cryptosporidiosisis recently recongised in Slovenia, too and underwent to epidemiological recording.
