  • Preliminary study of void influence on polyamide 66 spur gears durability

    In achieving the planned lifespan of polymer gears for the intended application, the correct selection of material, gear design and the performed production process which includes the correct ... optimization of technological parameters, are of key importance. Undesirable system aspects of injection molding process can occur, which can lead to defects in the structure of a polymer material. The presented research explains the formation and growth of cavitation nucleus merging in larger voids which have an impact on gear durability performance. For clearer presentation of voids effect, durability tests of polyamide 66 gears without voids were conducted. It has been deduced that gears without voids have 26% to 43% longer lifespan, depending on the obtained durability, which is conditioned by applicated load on the observed gear pair.
