    Koltaj-Kocan, E... ; Belović, Branislava
The analysed data from the National Perinatal Information System (NPIS) for the period from 1994 to 1998 show considerable differences between the Pomurjeregion and Slovenia in general. Perinatal ... mortality rate in this periodis higher in the Pomurje region than Slovenian average but it is fallingin line with the rate for Slovenia in general. Particularly the early neonatal mortality rate is falling, while there is a light upward trend in thestillbirth rate. The Pomurje region has a higher number of teenage partuirents than Slovenia in general, and a higher percentage of unmarried mothers, particularly in 1997 and 1998. Women have the first medical examination in entire pregnancy later than in Slovenia as a whole. The number of visits during pregnancy in the Pomurje region is lower, as well as the number of ultrasound examinations. The percentage of women hospitalized duringpregnancy is substantially higher in the Pomurje region than in Sloveniain general. Although the percentage of fathers who are present in labour and delivery is still very low, it is increasing. Among the ten most frequent diagnoses in current pregnancies the region was characterized in 1998by a higher number of edema without hypertension and proteinuria, urinary tract infections, and a higher percentage of the suspicion of established intrauterine growth retardation, as well as a higher number of hypertensions without proteinuria and edema than Slovenian average.
