  • Influence of laser deposition technique on surface integrity of 12 Ni maraging tool steel
Bergant, Zoran ; Grum, Janez, 1946-
In this paper, the surface integrity of laser deposited 12-Ni maraging tool steel specimens, made by two different reparation techniques is analyzed. The first reparation technique is the Nd:YAG ... laser cladding with coaxial powder injection and the second, the hybrid process of flame spraying with subsequent laser remelting of sprayed coating. The aim of the subsequent precipitation annealing is to achieve constant through-depth microhardness in the fusion zone and in the base material. The residual stresses in laser cladded layers are increasing with depth in compressive side. The major reasonfor generation compressive stresses is the phase transformation from austenite to martensite while the minor is the material shrinkage which generally leads to tensile stress in the clad layer. The residual stresses generated during flame spraying are tensile and are increasing with the coating thickness. After subsequent laser remelting the residual stresses decrease due to microstructure changes during the remelting process.
