    Forward osmosis (FO) is a novel membrane process that can potentially be used as an energy-saving alternative toconventional membrane processes. The driving forcein the FO process is an osmotic ... pressure created bythe osmoticgradient when a high concentration of a saline solution flows along one side of the membrane versus alowconcentration of feed along the other side. This study works on the suitability of novel micellar drawsolutes for theforward osmosis membrane bioreactor (FO-MBR) applications. Micellar solutions are capable of generating highosmotic pressure, low toxicity and viscosity and are easily separable from the diluted draw solution.The effect ofreverse transported draw solute on the biomass in the FO-MBR is also studied. Study concludes micellardraw solutionsmuch effective than the commonly used inorganic draw solutes in terms of water flux stability, low energy recovery andless reverse transport.
