    Purpose: The objective of enucleation is to achieve the best possible functional and cosmetic effect, reflected in good symmetry and motility of theeye prosthesis. Methods: The article presents the ... technique of enucleation with implantation of the hydroxyapatite implant. It describes our experience with additional materials which prevent complications in cases when it is not possible to use the patient's own sclera or that from the eye bank. The postenucleation socket syndrome and its treatment are presented. Conclusions: The hydroxyapatite orbital implant becomes a living part of the orbit and provides good motility ofthe eye prosthesis. The functional and cosmetic effects are excellent, with complications being relatively rare. it is important to prevent the postenucleation socket syndrome; to identify it earlyand to treat it by appropriate conservative or surgical means.
