  • Analiza primerov malarije pri pomorščakih Spošne plovbe Portorož v letih 1994-1998
    Kopilović, Boris, 1970-
Seamen are a special group of workers, who perform their duties on a ship in agroup of 18 to 20 persons. They are usually 6 to 7 months absent from their homes. They are often on open sea for several ... weeks and have only short stops in ports. While working they are exposed to various burdens. They are threatened from infectious diseases and between them often from malaria. Between 1994 and 1998 4 to 5 seamen working for Splošna plovba Portorož yearlysearched for health assistance because of malaria. Majority of malaria cases were found out in Africa. Malaria incidence rates between seamen of Splošna plovba Portorož and rest of Slovenian population differ signifcally. There are differences between deck service and other services on board, but with chi-squared distribution method no statistically important differences were detected. To determine exactly if there are statistically important differences between deck and other services on board we should include in a study a larger number of seamen or we should use a longer observation period or we should include seamen from various shipping-companies.
