  • Continuous casting of CK 45 grade steel billets under variety of casting and cooling condiions

    A plane (two-dimensional) mathematical model of heat and mass transfer has been developed and applied to predict the temperature field and pool profiles of radially continuously cast steel billets ... under variety of casting and cooling conditions. In the frame of our work the study of effect to cooling rate and casting speed has been done. Between the billet surface and the cooling media (air, water) the mechanisms of heat convection and radiation have been considered. The testing material was carbon steel of Ck 45 grade. The numerical calculations have been made with the finite difference method (FDM) for different square cross-section areas billet between 140 x 140 and 220 x 220 ▫$m^2$▫. The numerical results have been confirmed by the industrial temperature measurement on the radial continuous casting system.
