Differences in steel frame deformation in view of different types of fire protection [Elektronski vir]

The paper presents numerical parametric studies of the influence of various types of steel protections on the mechanical response of a steel frame, exposed to fire. In the parametric studies, newly ...developed advanced numerical methods are used for the planar heat transfer analysis over the steel cross-section, protected with an intumescent and dynamical analysis of spatial beam-like structures. In the studies, protections in the form of intumescent coating and protective boards are considered. An iterative procedure for the determination of air temperature in the void space between the fire-protective boards and the steel surfaces is employed, accounting for the heat transfer with convection and radiation. The studies show noticeably higher deformation of steel frame when protected with intumescent coating compared to the protective boards for comparable thermal performance of the protections.
