  • Load-deformation behavior of bolted bearing-type connections [Elektronski vir]
    Može, Primož
Although bolted bearing-type connections are widely used in steel structures, the knowledge on their deformation behaviour is limited. The deformation behaviour is particularly important for hinge ... connections, misaligned connections, in connections where the bearing deformations are important for the global behaviour of the structure, etc. Bolted bearing-type connections are characterised by a nonlinear deformation behaviour in relation to yielding of the material, which occurs at the beginning of the deformation path. Therefore, the bearing deformation, which is expressed by deformation of the bolt hole is irreversible. The paper deals with the formulation of a non-linear analytical expression that allows the designer to estimate the deformation of the bolt hole due to the bearing. The expression was derived based on numerical analysis and confirmed by tests bolted lap connections made of mild and high strength steels. The applicability of the analytical model of bearing deformation is demonstrated by experimentally and numerically obtained results of bolted connections with more bolts.
