  • The combination of geodetic and other measurement techniques for bridge construction : doctoral thesis
    Kamnik, Rok
The thesis describes the geodetic and other measurement techniques used during bridge construction: location study, designing, construction, and the exploatation of the bridge. The need for precise ... measurements during all process stages is studied thoroughly. Some structures and their relationships, positions in space and shifs represent the structural set of an area, as included within regional units, and smaller or larger portions of the earthʼs crust known as the Earthʼs plates and micro plates. The most important fact is that tectonic movements are always possible around the locations of considered bridges. Therefore, it is certainly necessary to define in detail their characteristics due to the potential impacts on individual bridges. A recent structural set was created for the locations of three considered bridges. The main goal was to investigate the connection and usability of a strain gauge - accelerometer measurements under dynamic load testing of a structure for determining vertical displacement at static load. The ability of the strain gauge and accelerometer sensor is investigated for picking up specific deformation/vertical displacement signals during the dynamica loading of a bridge. Theoretical formulation is discussed regarding the dynamic acceleration strain ratio (DASR) method on a simply supported beam. Laboratory tests were made to confirm the usability of the DASR method when also using a linear variable diferential transducer (LVDT) of inductive transducers and geodetic measurements. Moreover, full size tests were made on bridges structures. The aim was to improve the usage of this method as direct geodetic measurement is very time-consuming or the points are unattainable when using the instruments. The method was tested theoretically in the laboratory and with some field measurements. Some guidelines for the use of dynamic acceleration strain ratio in geodesy are also presented in conclusion.
