  • Heating of ingots in a chamber furnace: mathematical model

    In cooperation with the Stellworks Ravne the mathematical model of heating ingots in the chamber furnace was made. The main task was to identify the physical problem and to make the mathematical ... model for heating of ingots of the square cross-section. The testing steels of two qualities of OCR 12 SP andOCR 12 VM have been manufactured in the Steelworks Ravne. The plane (two dimensional) mathematical model has been done. Ingots have been preheated and the initial homogeneous temperature field has been supposed (initial conditions). The ingots structure was homogeneous and isotropic without any heat sources and ponors. The heat inside the ingots has been transferred by conduction only. Between the ingots surface and the furnace media the mechanism of the heat convection and radiation has been considered (boundry conditions). In this model, the functional relation between the material properties and the temperature has been considered, too. On the basin of the mathematical model a computational program has been done. The view into the ingot temperature field in any heating time was enabled. The solution of the heating optimization has been demonstrated in the two viewpoints: in reducing of the energy consumption and decreasing of the heating time. The need for direct linking of the experimental thermotechnical measurements and the numerical solution have been shown and confirmed.
