  • Okužbe pri zobnih implantatih = Infections with dental implants
    Ihan Hren, Nataša, 1962-
Partial and total edentoulism are more frequently treated with dental implants. Their failure after they have been osseointegrated and prostodontically loaded is the consequence of the prostodontic ... overloading or periimplantitis. The periimplantitis is the inflammation of the soft tissues around the implant which progresses to the jawbone. So, with the resorption ofthe supporting bone of the implant, the implant can be lost. The most frequent bacterial causatives are similar as in parodontal disease i.e. the Gram-negative anaerobic cocci and bacili. Their origin is the plaque on the implant uncovered surface parts as in the parodontal pockets of the remaining teeth. The periimplantitis progresses faster than similar infections of the teeth, probably due to different anatomical characteristics of the soft tissues around the teeth and implants, Its treatment is the combination of surgical revision and systemic and local treatment with adequate antibiotics. The experiences with the periimplantitis of the Clinical Department of the Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery, University Medical Centre Ljubljana are described.
