Critical discourse linguistics in second language teaching [Elektronski vir]

The article discusses the role and potential use of critical discourse linguistics in second language teaching. It looks at different approaches to the critical analysis of texts, such as critical ...linguistics and critical discourses analysis, and evaluates them from the perspective of their potential use in the second language classroom. Special attention is given to the potential benefits and pitfalls of introducing critical discourse analysis in the second language curriculum. The question of what is at stake when second language learners are guided towards discovering the hidden ideological meanings of texts is illustrated with examples of texts and activities that can be used for critical reading by students of English as a second language.
