  • HSC - High Speed Cutting - a new approach to tool manufacturing
    Kopač, Janez, 1949-
High quality and high hardness materials from which tools are made have dictated new alternative procedures of machining such as electro - discharge machining or laser etc. A result of this has been ... a very time - consuming and expensive manufacturing and thus incompetitive price. For this reason the industries in the developed countries have made a step further. New state -of - the - art cutting materials and high - rigidity and high - capability machine tools now enable cutting materials with a hardness up to 52; 62;(70) Hrc. These HSC - procedures have several advantages over the other such as instant heat removal with the chip so that the machined surface does not suffer any thermal damage or possibility of achieving very low roughness, etc. The contribution will present some of the features and advantages of HSC procedures. The most recent technology of machining will be discussed in its entire complexity: machined material/ cutting tool/cutting parameters/machine tools. Examples will be given to illustrate the advantage of new machining technologies, time and cost savings. With information hopefully reaching the targeted public in due time, we wish to prepare the professional world for a new approach to tool manufacture so in the sense of HSC - technology developments as well as preparing them for the investments into high-quality machine tool required by modern production. Any withdrawals and or lagging behind in development will mean a deviation from the track along which the developed Europe is moving forward.
