Neuroendocrine tumors encompass a wide spectrum of neoplasms with a common origin in the neuroendocrine cell system. They share the capacity for hormone secretion that results in different clinical ... syndromes. Although neuroendocrine tumors can arise in different organs such as adenohypophysis, thymus, lung, thyroid, adrenal glandule and skin, most common are the gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors that include carcinoid and islet cell neoplasms with an incidence of one to two cases per 100.000 people. Theseneoplasms, with common liver metastases, are associated with an indolent rate of growth and tumor specific hormone production and secondary clinical syndrome. Therefore their treatment is different from the traditional management of hepatic metastases. The first treatment option is surgery, whichis usually not radical. Percutaneous embolisation of hepatic artery, cryotherapy and radiofrequency ablation could be used as an adjuvant or palliative treatment.
