    Prijon, Ticijana ; Ermenc, Branko
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) enables the survival of sick and injured persons suffering cardiac arrest. CPR procedures have great potential for injury. Data from professional literature ... indicate that the incidence of post-CRP injury is from 21 % to 75% among adults and 7% among resuscitated children. We included in retrospective research 195 post-CPR fatalities, amongwhom 84% had one or more post-resuscitation injuries. Broken ribs were found in 73%, broken sternum in 59% and broken spine in 0,5%. Injuries to the upper respiratory pathways werw found in 9% to the lungs in 1%, the heart and major arteries in 1% and to abdominal organs in 3%. In 12% ot the fatalities, rescucitation involed simultaneous injury to several organs. Correct use and implementation of CRP procedures and modern medical equipment can reduce post-resuscitation morbidity and mortality.
