Vrednotenje elektrofizioloških odzivov mrežnice glede na perimetrijo pri bolnikih s pigmentno retinopatijo : magistrsko deloPopović, Petra, 1969-Background: Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is one of the most common hereditary eyediseases. It can start already in childhood with progressive death of retinal photoreceptors. A secondary degeneration of ... the inner retinal neurons follows. The disease is diagnosed and evaluated with various measures of retinal function every one of them revealing the specific information about the progress of the disease. The most important are the perimetry, which is a subjective test and gives information about the actual vision of the patient, and more objective electroretinography, which serves to evaluate the extent and level of the damage. Outcome of both measures is influenced by the visual acuity. Recent histopathologic studies show that in late stages of RP a large proportion of ganglion cells, which function is reflected in pattern ERG, remain preserved in spite of severe photoreceptor loss. Aim of the study: In this study we wanted to assess whether pattern ERG is a sensitive test in evaluating the retinal function in RP patients. By analyzing the relationship between static and kinetic perimetry on one side and electrophysiologic measurements on the other, we searched for the new criteria for the electrophysiologic testing. We also wanted to evaluate the influence of visualacuity on perimetric results and on amplitudes of the electrophysiologicresponses. Subjects and methods: An analysis was perforrned on 50 eyes of 25 patients with typical rod-cone retinitis pigmentosa. The standard Snellen visual acuity was tested. Visual field sensitivity was measured with automated static perimetry (Octopus G2 program) where mean defect was taken as an index of visual field loss. In kinetic perimetry (Goldmann) the average radius of the visual field measured with target IIž4 and V/4 was calculated. Transient pattern ERG and all five flash ERG responseswere also measured according to ISCEV standards.
