  • Klinična slika tuberkuloze pri otroku = Clinical manifestations of childhood tuberculosis
    Maček, Vasilija
Childhood tuberculosis is very often are asymptomatic disease. When symptoms and signs are present they are rarely specific enough to indicate the disease unless it is being specifically looked for. ... Children usually acquire the disease from a contagious adult. It is extremely important, therefore, to screen the children who have been exposed to a contagious person and also follow up on them for the three following years. Pediatricians usually distinguish two main forms of tuberculosis: tuberculosis infection (latent tuberculosis) and tuberculosis disease (apparent clinical and/or radiographic manifestations). Childhood primary tuberculosis appears with the enlargement of lymph modes to a more prominent degree than adult postprimary tuberculosis.Primary tuberculosis heals itself, or as a result of treatment, or it is followed by a progression of one of the components `of the primary complex (lymph nodes or parenhimal focus). Dissemination, and meningitis are also possible early complications of the disease. Though they are called earlycomplications they usually appear moths after infection. Therefore, it isnever sufficient to examine a child exposed to contagious patient only once.Late manifestations of tuberculosis such as bone or urinary tract tuberculosis as , well as postprimary tuberculosis usually appear after several years.
