  • Občutljivost slovenskih izolatov Streptococcus agalactiae iz rodil za izbrane antibiotike = Streptococcus agalactiae isolates from genital tract in Slovenia - susceptibility to selcted antibiotics
    Štrumbelj, Iztok ...
Objective: To determine rates of antimicrobial susceptibility in Streptococcusagalactiae isolates, isolated in Slovenia in one-year period, mostly in year 2005. Methods: In one-year period, 1440 ... isolates of S. agalactiae from genital tract and related tissues from 15 to 45 years old women were isolated, by ten microbiology laboratories in Slovenia. Susceptibility to routinely tested antibiotics, useful for intrapartum prophylaxis to prevent S. agalactiae perinatal disease, was reported. Susceptibility rates were calculated. Data for all isolates and for individualregions were presented. Results: All strains tested were susceptibleto penicillin and vancomycin. Susceptibility rate for erythromycin was 82%, to clindamycin 80%. Rates of susceptibility decreased from 1998. Rates of susceptibility were similar in most regions, Nova Gorica region was an exception with higher rates of susceptibility than average. Conclusions: Slovenia is one of the countries with high rates of resistance to erythromycinand clindamycin in S. agalactiae isolates. Physicians must consider this fact whenever these antibiotics are used.
