  • Looking at gender differences in emotional intelligence and self-efficacy between female and male leader : Research project for MSc Business psychology C91PP
    Dimitreli, Maria Xanthi
This quantitative study aims to examine the emotional intell igence and its relations to self efficacy in a sample of leaders. The correlation between emotional intelligence and self efficacy will be ... examined among male and female. This survey involves 100 leaders; the participants who take part on the research will be 50 male and 50 female leaders. According to the literature, individuals who score high on emotional intelli gence score high on self efficacy as well (Kret & Gelder, June 2012) . Women tend to score higher on emotional intelligence compared to men. This research will examine the connection in emotional intelligence and selfefficacy between the two genders. This quantitative study aims to test the differences between the independent variable, the gender and the dependent variable, the emotional intelligence and the selfefficacy. The participants' gender and the education are measured by demographic questions. The independent variables emotional intelligence and selfefficacy, are measured by the general self - efficacy scale (GSE) (Jerusalem & Schwarzer, 1992) and the emotional intelligence scale (EIS) (Schutte, Malouff, Hall, Haggerty, Cooper& Golden, 1998). The emotional intelligence scale is a five - point Likert - type self report scale (1=strongly disagree, 2= moderately disagree, 3= neither agree nor disagree, 4=moderately agree, 5=strongly agree) and a total score is derived by summing up the item responses (Petrides & Furnham, 2000). GSE scale is a thirteen - item Likert - type scale, the answers are rated from 1 to 4 scales (1 = not at all true, 2 = hardly 16 true, 3 = moderately true, 4 = exactly true). The higher the participant s scor , the greater their sense of self - efficacy is (Schwarzer, 1993) . It was found that there is no significant difference in self - efficacy between males and females. Also, there is no connection between self efficacy and emotional intelligence in sample's scores. However, there is a significant difference in emotional intelligence between male and female leaders with men to score higher than women in emotional intelligence scale.
