Stanje prehranjenosti bolnikov z juvenilnim idiopatičnim artritisom : magistrsko delo

Background: The disrupted balance of nutritional state is known to be the cause of many chronic diseases. It is also a frequent event in juvenile idopathic arthritis (JIA), often progressing into ...chronic impairment of jointsin children. The majority of studies that have so far investigated the nutritional state of the patients with JIA, have often dealt with malnutrition. They were, though, made on a small number of patients, and moreover, in extremely diverse environments with different nutritional habits as well as under different geographic and social conditions. These studies also analyzed different subtypes of the disease and its different phasesč therefore, the conclusions of cannot be simply transferred into our environment. To our knowledge, the persistence of the disease in relation to the nutritional state of the patients with JIA has not been studied yet. AimČ Our research was aimed to establish the prevalence of malnutrition and overnutrition in the patients with JIA in Slovenia. Another objective of the research was to find out whether there were any differences in nutritional states of young patients with various persistency of the disease and their healthy equals with regard to the nutrition, physical activity and education of their parents. MethodsČ Nutritional state assessment was based on the body composition that was determined by anthropometric measurements (body weight, height, body circumferences and thickness of skin folds), laboratory measurements (serum concentrations of proteins albumins, prealbumins, lipids, leptins, glutathione reductase), estimates (body weight index, muscular mass, fat tissue percentage) and laboratory parameters (determination of serum proteins, albumins, prealbumins, lipidogram, and mineral content in the hair).(Abstract truncated at 2000 characters).
