  • Application of the analytic hierarchy process method for the assessment of appropriate physical laws in the design of new, alternative actuators
Žavbi, Roman ; Duhovnik, Jože, 1948-
In designing conceptual design chains for technical systems, an extremely large number of chains may appear (combination explosion), which are the result of a large number of physical laws that are ... used as building blocks forthe chains. A procedure therefore needs to be prepared which would reduce the number of physical laws on which the conceptual design of appropriate chains is based. Those physical laws or chains are selected which promise the most appropriate solutions for technical systems. This creates a paradox, since it has been widely acknowledged that early quantitative assessment performed in the conceptual design phase can eliminate solutions that may later prove to be perfectly suitable, and, in addition, quantitative criteria for the assessment of the conceptual design of future technical systems are not known in the conceptual design phase.
