Risk is defined as the probability that a disease-free individual is developing a disease under observation over a specified period, conditional on that the same individual is not dying from any ...other disease during the period. In practice, risk is estimated by using different methods. The simple cumulative method is the easiest and most widely used. Risk cannot be accurately estimated by this method unless all subjects in the observed candidate population are followed for the entire follow-up period, or are known to develop the disease during the period (no censoring). Because of serious limitations of this method, several methods more or less susceptible to censoring were proposed. Considering the censoring of the data in estimating cumulative risk requires the use of special analytic methods. These methods are actuarial, density, and Kaplan Meier method.
