  • Analysis of various degrees of cold deformation deep-drawing steel based on Barkhausen noise
    Grum, Janez, 1946- ...
ǂThe ǂmagnetic Barkhausen effect is a phenomenon occurring during magnetisation of ferromagnetic materials and related to movements of magnetic domains under the influence of an alternating magnetic ... field. Behaviour of magnetic domains is dependent on microstructure characteristics such as grain size and grain orientation, cold deformation, microhardness, residual stresses, dislocations, impurities. The Barkhausen noise is a collection of all information on a material; therefore, voltage signals should be captured, processed and compared to equal signals from the materials having specified properties. The paper shows influences of various degrees of cold deformation, i.e. the influence of grain size. The study is based on an analysis of the voltage signal of the magnetic Barkhausen noise by means of its maximum amplitude, an analysis of its power spectra, and a comparison of the voltage-signal power. In the investigation, a deep-drawing steel DIN St10 in the soft condition, in the form of plate and strips having various initial thicknesses, which were subsequently rolled to a uniform thickness, was used. The test pieces used were hardened by cold deformation, and had a modified microstructure and modified microhardness with regard to the degree of hardening selected.
