Hymenoptera venom anaphylaxis induce a large but reversible decrease of blood basophil number [Elektronski vir]Korošec, Peter, 1970- ...Background: The pathogenic role of basophils in Hymenoptera venom anaphylaxisis not completely understood. Furthermore, there is also a lack of potential cellular biomarkers for anaphylaxis. Method: ... Fifteen patients were recruited from the University Clinic emergency unit as close as possible after the Hymenopter field-sting anaphylaxis (1 I, 3 II, 4 III and 7 Mueller grade IV). The first sampling was done in median time of 2 hours (1 up to 24 hours) after the systemic reaction, the second 7 days and the third one month afterwards. Basophil absolute count was preformed by flow cytometry using microbeads and CD123 and HLA-DR staining. Result: The number of basophils shortly after anaphylaxis was from 2 fold up to 50 fold lower (median 6 fold) then 7 days after anaphylaxis (P<0.0001). There was also some further increase1 month afterwards (3.5 fold up to 130 fold in comparison shortly after anaphylaxis). This dynamic, which was clearly evident in all subjects, was comparable between different clinical severities of anaphylaxis. Yet, a lower basophil numbers were evident in the most severe reactors. Conclusion: These results demonstrated the importance of basophils in pathogenesis of anaphylactic reactions and suggest a marked systemic relocation of basophils during anaphylaxis. Basophil blood count dynamic may be also a potential biomarker for anaphylaxis.Source: Abstracts [Elektronski vir] : at the crossroads of research, practice and education (Str.
