  • Comparison of team and group work approaches in manufacturing
    Butala, Peter, 1953- ...
New forms of work organization have been implemented in manufacturing practices recently. On the engineering level teamwork is gaining on importance especially in the field of product and process ... development. Similar concepts are implemented on operational levels in group work. The basic idea of both approaches is to overcome the rigidity and limitations of the Taylor's paradigm of division of work and operations, which has been governing the spirit in manufacturing for alomost one hundred years. Despite of different levels of application both approaches are similar and are human centered. In the paper a comparison of features of both concepts is performed. The concepts are illustrated in two case studies. The group work approach has been implemented and examined in a German industrial enterprise, while the teamwork has been studied in a Slovene University laboratory.
