Tig welding of stainless steel and aluminium in an Ar-H2 mixture

The paper treats some basic characteristics of welding of austenitic steel and aluminium in a mixture of argon and hydrogen. Some basic characteristics of the two gases and their mixtures with ...different ratios are indicated. Based on a theoretical calculation the arc shape and the quantity of material melted in different mixtures are given. Experimental results confirm theoretical results. These results are stated for welding of aluminium. In TIG welding the quantity of the parent metal melted in different gas mixtures is established and melting rate is calculated. The results obtained indicate that welding efficiency and productivity may be increased with addition of hydrogen to argon as a shielding gas.
