  • Noise generation by rotating stall and surge in vane-axial fans
    Čudina, Mirko
ǂA ǂcharacteristic of axial flow fans is instabilities in their performance and noise under partial load operation. Those instabilities are a consequence of rotating stall created in the rotor blade ... and/or in the guide vane cascade. At some operating conditions the rotating stall causes the appearance of surge representing the lowest region of fan operating stability. The rotating stall, and especially surge, causes a dramatic increase in the emitted noise and a lowering of the performance of the fan. This paper highlights the rotating stall generation phenomenon and its influence on the emitted total noise level using the fundamental turbine equation (Euler's equation), noise spectra measurements, and analysis of these measurements for axial flow fans with inlet and outlet guide vanes.
