    One of the advantages of the world wide web is that we can now make literature that was before known as unused, available to users. This is also true in case of graduate and postgraduate works that ... are important but rarely used parts of library collections. Literature that we have mentioned is a result of research work and an important source of information for students and scholars in any field. If the results of research work are available quickly and easily, this can have a positive affect on the dynamics of a research environment. Electronic theses and dissertations (ETD) can make this kind of access possible and have an important impact on increased use of this kind of grey literature. In this diploma some advantages, disadvantages and unresolved questions are presented with making theses and dissertations available electronically. There are some successful ETD collections presented from abroad and from the domestic environment. Results of the empirical part which was taken in 2009 at all four Slovenian universities revealed, that students usually do not use theses and dissertations from other students as information source but that they would use this literature more often if it would be available in the ETD collection on the world wide web. In this collection they would also like to include their own work.
