  • Comparison between analytical and numerical mould calculation for injection moulding of thermoplastics
Godec, Damir ; Rot, Matjaž ; Čatić, Igor
Special attention needs to be paid to the development of mould as the most important element of the system for injection moulding of thermoplastics. The central phase of mould development consists of ... the rheological, thermal and mechanical mould calculations which may be performed analytically and numerically. The numerical mould calculation applies computer simulation of single injection moulding cycle phases. With computer simulation it is possible to foresee the difficulties that might occur during the injection moulding. Although both approaches carry certain advantages and disadvantages, the increased complexity of thermoplastics mouldings gives growing importance to numerical calculations. On the other hand, analytical calculations are easier to use and the mould designer does not require any special training. Therefore, there is a need to compare these two approaches to mould calculation, and to indicate the advantages and the disadvantages of using either one of the calculations in certain mould calculation phases.
