  • "Semitski izvori" areopagitske mistike
    Širca, Alen Albin
The paper begins by assessing the hypothesis of Syrian influence on Dionysius the Areopagite, which is based on a pseudo-epigraphic reference in the Areopagitic corpus to Hierotheos as the teacher of ... Dionysius. A possible source of Areopagitic mysticism is The Book of Hierotheos, most likely written by a Syrian Origenist monk, Stephen bar Sudaili, in the 5th century. This hypothesis, however, is rejected, together with all historicist search of any kind of influence. Framed in a transhistorical archaeology, the paper argues for an "iconic" reading of the Areopagitic corpus, which should follow the mystagogical appeal of the latter by reading it "experientially", both in the light of the Bible and of Greek and Syrian patristics.
