In the production of transport and monolithic silica aerogel samples, the drying of alcogel is not the most critical step. If the extraction of alcohol with carbon dioxide is used, the diffusion of ...alcohol through the alcogel to CO2 plays an important role. Dependent on the diffusion times, the qulaity and shape of aerogel samples varied from totally cracked samples to perfect, transparent and crack-free aerogels. At the conditions of medium diffusion times, the non transparent area was observed inside the aerogel samples. From the dependence of the width of the non-transparent damage area on diffusion times, the diffusion coefficients of methanol in the liquid and supercritical CO2 inside the cylindrical samples of silica aerogel were determined.
