  • Electrode edge wear in dependence on EDM process parameters
Roethel, Franc, 1931-1999 ; Junkar, Mihael ; Žnidaršič, Matjaž, 1964-
Sinking EDM process parameters greatly contribute to the wear of the electrode, which in its turn affects the geometrical shape and surface quality of the product. Identification and evaluation of ... the electrode edge radius wear is of extreme importance in view of the overall EDM process optimization, control and adequate technological planning. The existing devices with different control systems reduce some negative influences of the process on technological parameters such as the quantity of the eroded material and surface quality of the workpiece but they are not sufficient in controlling the process with regard to all influencing parameters. In our research the wear of triangular electrode from different starting radius of the electrode edges was assessed with respect to characteristic impulses detected by the on-line measuring system - 'process analysator - optical cable - personal computer'. The computer evaluation of process performance measuring data shows that the existing control on EDM devices is deficient in controlling and exact description of the electrode wear.
