  • Reakcije med formo in jekleno litino pri postopku Croning = Diffusion processes between the mould and steel, melt in the Croning process
    Trbižan, Milan ; Podgornik, David
The low carbon steel was cast into modulus made according to the Croning process of three kinds of casted sands. The coated sands were intended for grey iron, special steel, and low carbon steel ... castings. The investigation of the mould and cast interface carried out by means of a microanalyser has shown that even small differences in coated sands result in high changes. It has been shown that sand is not applicable to steel cast, because of larger amount of iron oxides (magnetite layer) is formed which couldn't be observed with other sands. A strong manganese and potassium concentration can also be observed in the surface layer. As the reactions are taking their course above all in the time, when the steel casting has already solidified on the surface, this critical time can be reduced by adding the coated sands iron scales having an effect of a cooling medium.
