Eifersucht in den Reiseberichten deutschsprachiger Autoren über Bosnien-Herzegowina : ein Gefühl oder eine Frage der (islamischen) Tradition?Žmirić, AmiraBosnia and Herzegovina first appeared as a subject in German-language travel books between 1496 and 1499. Nevertheless, this type of literature did not reach its peak until 1878 and 1879, when ... Austro-Hungarian monarchy occupied these places. Almost all the travel books (that is, travel guides) written in German have one common characteristic: they can be linked to many clichés, stereotypes and prejudices when it comes to race, nation, as well as the differences between East and West, civilization and barbarism. Few travel books and even fewer travel guides dealt with the topic of male jealousy in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Analysed in this article is whether the authors who wrote in German considered the jealousy of the local men (Muslims or Christians) as a type of feeling or a result (when related to Muslims) of the Islamic faith and Islamic tradition. In his travel book Bosnien. Land and Leute ("Bosnia. Land and People"), Adolf Strausz mentions jealousy not as a feeling but as a part of Islamic culture which has been present in Bosnia and Herzegovina for centuries. Milena Mrazovic-Preindlbergerʼs travel guide Die bosnische Ostbahn ("The Bosnian Eastern Railway") contains a scene of jealousy in which jealousy is mentioned as a result of deep emotions. In Max Frischʼs short travel report Wenn Frauen verhüllt sind. Brief aus Sarajewo ("When the Women Are Veiled. A Letter from Sarajevo") jealousy is a feeling which is seen as an exotic trait belonging to this country.Source: Gefühlswelten und Emotionsdiskurse in der deutschsprachigen Literatur (Str. 255-263)Type of material - article, component part ; adult, seriousPublish date - 2012Language - germanCOBISS.SI-ID - 50520162
