This thesis deals with the importance of international mobility during university-level study in terms of work experience abroad related to students' academic programs and future careers in ...translation. This study is limited to exchanges within the European Erasmus Programme, which operates as a part of the third "generation" of education and training programs and enables students across Europe to spend a placement (traineeship/internship) period abroad. Because translation departments train professionals in intercultural and interlingual communication, international mobility, especially work experience abroad, is very important for translation students. This research is based on the hypothesis that student mobility for placement is important work experience that helps improve general and subject-specific competences and personal growth, with a focus on improving language skills and understanding foreign cultures. It includes students that have studied translation in Ljubljana and Innsbruck and spent a placement period abroad. The research method is based on a survey questionnaire, and the analysis shows fundamental differences between Slovenia and Austria, presents examples of good practice, highlights problems, and suggests possible improvements in student mobility for placement.
