Mlakar, Maja, 1973- ; Burgar, Matej, 1968- ; Burger, Helena
There are several prosthetic factors that influence the use of upper limb prostheses. In children, parents and growth have to be considered as well. The objective of the study was to identify the ... most frequent repairs of myoelectric prostheses and determine whether children needed a special kind of socket which could be adjusted during the child's growth. Medical records of 22 children visiting upper extremity prosthetic clinic were reviewed and analyzed. It was found that it happened as frequently or even more frequently that electric components broke down than a chlid needed a larger socket. For that reason we do not believe that children need an adjustable socket design. Regular follow-up by the whole rehabilitation team are required and the socket can be adjusted when necessary.
