    Thermotherapy is one of the oldest methods of physical therapy. The article describes efficiency of thermotherapy in decreasing pain of certain diseases and injuries of musculoskelatal system. By ... patients with rheumatoid arthritis superficial moist heat and cryotherapy can be used to relieve pain. Praffin baths combined with exercises have beneficial short term effects for arthritic hands. Ice massage has beneficial effect on range of motion, function and knee strength in people with osteoarthritis of the knee. Cold packs decrease swelling. Efficacy of thermotherapy on people with acute or chronic low back pain is not confirmed, nor is it confirmed on people with fibromyalgia. Efficiency of cryotherapy after acute soft tissue injuries is partly proved, particularly after ankle sprain. Efficiency of cryotherapy after some operations on musculoskeletal system is proved in some researches but in other denied. Efficiency of diathermy in some researches is proved, in other denied, researches are of low quality. More high quality researches are needed to provide evidence based guidelines in thermotherapy of musculoskeletal injuries and diseases.
