Translating English film titles into Slovene [Elektronski vir] = Prevajanje angleških filmskih naslovov v slovenščino : diplomsko delo

The diploma thesis Translating film titles from English into Slovene is based on the analysis of film titles in English and their translated Slovenian counterparts. It needs to be mentioned that ...translating is a relatively subjective process, which does not offer merely one correct possibility but a rather wide array of potential solutions for the translator to employ. On the one hand, translators must follow certain grammatical rules, while on the other hand their hands are relatively free when opting for the preferred choice, all within the boundaries set by the context and register of the original text. The majority of the analysed film title translations can be seen as overtranslations, meaning that they offer an increase in details in regards to the original film title. A large portion of translations in the thesis can be regarded as unsuitable or incorrect.
