  • Primerjava serološke in molekularne genotipizacije slovenskih izolatov virusa hepatitisa C = Comparison of serological and molecular genotyping of Slovene isolates of hepatitis C virus
    Seme, Katja, 1966- ...
Background. In serological genotyping assays typespecific antibodies to hepatitis C virus (HCV) are detected, which enables HCV genotyping of seropositive nonviremic patients. In the present study ... the usefulness of a commercial serological genotyping assay was examined with a panel of Slovene HCV isolates. Methods. using HCV Serotyping 1-6 Assay (Murex Diagnostic Limited, Dartford, England) HCV genotypes were determined in 40 chronic hepatitis C patients with previously molecularly determined HCV genotype, in 6nonviremic patients after successful antiviral therapy with known HCV genotype as determined previously in viremic period and in 20 patients withoutpreviously determined HCV genotype due to four-year seropositive nonviremic status. Results. genotype-specific antibodies were detected in 62 (93.9%) of the 66 serum samples tested. Of 40 serum samples with previously molecularly determined HCV genotype 36 (90%) samples revealed serologicaly a concordant genotype. Three samples were scored as double infection using serological genotyping, although either of them was characterized as mixed infection by molecular genotyping. Conclusions. The serological genotyping is a useful method for characterization of Slovene HCV isolates. it is most convenient for genotyping of HCV seropositive nonviremic patients. The serotyping test is rap
