  • Artificial neural networks in surface subsidence prediction

    As an alternative to the true empirical or empirically based formulae which are widely used to predict surface deformation due to underground excavation, the use of artificial neural networks (ANN) ... is proposed. The training of feed-forward multi-layer neural network is based on the available data of actual excavations in Velenje Coal Mine (Slovenia). Consequently the ANN is used to predict the surface subsidence in the following year. The period from 1976 to 1997 was studied
