  • Emerging adults' current and future financial well-being in a post-pandemic economy [Elektronski vir] : a multinational comparison
    Li, Lijun ...
During emerging adulthood (18-30 years old), individuals are expected to become financially self-sufficient, and the most common pathway is through employment. The economic impact of COVID-19 ... restrictions on employment has been especially difficult for young workers. Many of them were struggling to secure stable employment even prior to the pandemic. In the current study, we explored how has COVID-19 impacted the financial well-being of emerging adults worldwide using a stress proliferation framework. We conceptualized COVID-19, a global macroeconomic event as a primary stressor disrupting the lives of emerging adults and triggering additional, or secondary stressors (e.g., loss of job, loss of income). Preliminary results showed that emerging adults' financial well-being were different across countries; employment status change, perception of COVID-19 restrictions, job-related income loss, and family financial dependence significantly predicted financial well-being. Advanced analyses are proposed to test potential moderation effects of individual coping style. This study will provide insights as to the interplay between macro-economic factors and emerging adults' financial well-being. These findings will shed light on how educators, policy makers, and society may support emerging adults as they prepare themselves for their financial future.
