This paper deals with companies that do not produce to stock; they produce to costumer's order. Some basic characteristics of order-based production are described as well as basic classification of ...companies that fall under the scope of this kind of production. Production planning and control in companies with order-based production differs from make-to-stock companies. That is why a new model for production planning and control is proposed, which considers the aspects that traditional production planning and control systems neglect.
