The writer drew attention to the most significant pests and diseases of apple and pear and has especially underlined contemporary problems experienced in intensive plantation. The writer calls ...attention to the "new" pests, but looking deeper into the problem one has to note that he really faces the change of dominancy of species; so it is necessary to introduce aimed to or integral protection. He writes about today's condition in regard to introduction of contemporary methods of monitoring pest occurences, and the application of environmentally less harmfull chemicals for crops protection and alternative methods of suppression. Particularly interesting are natural enemies. In the sphere of fungal diseases, the paper examines the problems which may occur with application of newer fungicides and looking further ahead into the future it is necessary to follow an extensive evaluation and study of secondary effects.
