  • Handle of viscose crepe fabrics
Sfiligoj-Smole, Majda ; Stakne, Kristina ; Geršak, Jelka
The very special characteristics of viscose fabrics, handle and aesthetics are improved by the use of high twisted viscose yarns. For production of crepe fabrics high twisted filaments with 1500 - ... 2300 twists are usually used. A soft handle, good appearance, easy care properties and some other surface characteristics accompanied by appropriate mechanical properties represent the basis for a high quality viscose crepe fabric. However, natural and regenerated cellulose fabrics have beside good some bad performances such as poor crease resistance at laundering and rather low dimensional stability. To improve these the durable press finishing with different resins is the usual way. A comparison of the physical properties due to different fabrics origins and different finishing processes is presented. All experiments were performed with plain-woven fabrics made of high twisted viscose yarns. Durable press finishing by crosslinking of viscose fabrics with low formaldehyde content reagents based on dihydroxyethylene urea was carried out. Physical properties were determined using Kawabata and FAST system and by determination of wrinkle recovery angle. In spite of the very similar fabric construction the fabrics produced by different producers differ regarding the physical properties and therefore some variations in handle properties were observed. Some physical parameters of the fabrics were influenced by the process of finishing as well.
