This paper presents the analysis of milk production of five farms in the Maribor region, where on everage, the milk production of Simmental cattle is lower than in other Slovene regions. The quality ...of roughage and the quantity of roughage production are investigated together with the effects on the milk production. It is proved that in feed rations the dry matter/energy input/phosphorus/ proteins ratio is not properly balanced. There is also the lack of vitamin/mineral mixtures and salt. The insufficient production of roughage and feed concentrate on the farms prevents the optimum exploitation of production potential of milk cows in this region, which, in standard lactation, in 1993 produced 3226 kg of milk with 3,89% fat and 3,28% milk proteins.
