TNF-alfa v gingivalni tekočini in serumu psov z eksperimentalnim parodontitisom = TNF-alpha in the gingival fluid and serum of dogs with experimental periodontitis

The concentration of tumour necrosis factor a (TNF alpha) was measured in the gingival fluid and serum of 14 beagle dogs with ligature-induced periodontitis. Gingival fluid samples were collected ...with microcapillary tubes6 months after ligature placement. The amount of dental plaque and the degree of gingival inflammation at the sampling sites wer assessed with the following clinical parameters: plaque index, gingival index, probing depth (PD) and clinical attachment loss (CAL). The serum of seven dogs was analysed before and 9 months after ligature placement. TNG alpha levelsin gingival fluid and serum were measud with an ELISA kit. Statistical analysis was performed with Pearsonćs correlation coefficient and paired Student's t-test. The gingival fluid levels of TNF alpha ranged from (r = 0.70, p < 0.01) and greater CAL values (r - 0.83, p < 0.01). The serum levels of TNF alpha varied between 130.0 and 180.0 pgžml at the beginning of the experiment and were insignificantly increased or unchanged 9 months later (128.0-230.0 pgžml). Theobserved increase in gingival fluid levels of TNF alpha in beagles with experimental periodontitis suggests that this cytokine is involved in periodontal inflammation and may have a role in alveolar bone destruction.
